Pictures!

Lolly has been so sleepy.  Her poor little body has been working so hard.

Her first dialysis treatment went really well today.  They did a very short treatment (1 1/2 hours) to see how her body would respond.  Everything went well, and they were able to clean out her blood and remove a little bit of the extra water (she has not urinated on her own for nearly two days- despite all the IV fluids and IV diuretics she's received).
Ben and Sammi:
Sammi has been a dream come true through all of this.  Since they were able to pinpoint Lolly's sickness, Sammi has been allowed in the room.  We wear gloves when we change Lolly's diapers (E. coli can spread through fecal contact), and wash our hands like crazy, and do everything we can to keep Sammi safe from all the hospital germs.

The orange on Lolly's neck and chin is from the betadyne used to clean the site where they placed the catheter in her neck this morning.

She's pretty (and also pretty puffy)
This afternoon, my Aunt Donna, cousin Melissa, and her daughter Grace came by to see Lolly.  A few years ago, when Grace was 6, she was hospitalized for a week with E. coli.  Grace is the sweetest girl- she wears her emotions on her sleeve.  She was so sweet, looking at Lolly.  It was great to see someone who has been through this and came out okay.  Thanks for coming to visit, Grace!
And the highlight of the entire day- Lolly woke up- FIGHTING MAD for a few minutes.  It was awesome!  I have said several times that Lolly had slept and slept.  At first, we didn't worry because we were told it was totally normal.  But after three days of not really seeing our girl awake at all, we started to get a little nervous.  E. coli can cause neurological damage (brain damage, stroke, etc).  I asked the doctor (who we LOVE) how concerned he was with Lolly not waking at all- he said between 1 and 10, he was at a 5.  He told us to watch her tonight, and if she didn't start waking up, a neurologist would be seeing her tomorrow.  Soon after the doctor left, Lolly finally woke up- screaming and mad.  She was yelling "yucky!!!" and was terribly uncomfortable.  She was super spunky and mad and we were finally able to get a little glimpse of our Lolly.  It was awesome.  Once Lolly is finally awake, we our going to work hard to keep her happy!
She was mad for about 10 minutes- and let me carry her for just a minute (although she was still mad) before she checked out for what will probably be a 10-hour nap.

We are hoping to finally start seeing some improvements tomorrow.

  2. Holy cow, that had to be a unnerving when they rolled that gigantic machine in and hooked it up to her. Medical technology is amazing- I'm sure you'd rather have a little less experience with it though.
Thanks for keeping us up to date. There are so many people thinking of your family and so concerned about Lauren. Here's hopn' she comes through with a real "terrible two" day for you tomorrow! -(It'd be one of her only chances for everybody to be happy about her being wide awake and pitching a fit for a good length of time, right?)

  3. Hey- thanks for the update. WE are always checking. I will be in SL tomorrow and wondered if I could come by. It will be just me, and if there is anything I can do to help-please let me. I will try your cell phone tomorrow, but plan on me around 1:30.

  4. Thanks for putting these up, Robbie. They made me cry. I've always felt a connection with Lolly since she was a baby and I wish I could hold her. Give her a big hug for me :) Love you guys!

  5. Robbie I was just laughing to myself as I was pondering what you and ben tried to do to keep her happy. because I got back to the memory of you saying "it doesn't matter what anyone else is doing what lauren wants lauren gets." I'm pretty sure she was a "little" irritated to wake up to all those cords. but the best part is she loves to look pretty so I have to say way to go on beauty parlor mom. she is a doll.

P.S. Emy called me and I am so extremely sorry to say that I gave the stroller back to it's rightful owner only last week. I was sick of looking at it and I cleaned out all the baby stuff. I"M SOOO SOOO SORRY. I can go buy you one and send it your way?!!!

  8. I love this blog, Rob! It is so great to see the pictures and not have to imagine so much of what you are going through, but to also see it. Poor Little Lolly! She is Amazing! I am so happy for you that Kel was able to stay with the boys while you, Ben and your mom have been with Lolly. Thank you so much for taking the time to put up the pictures and the information. I have been checking my email all the time hoping for more updates. It's the first thing in the morning and the last things at night that Glen and I talk about.
We love you all so much and wish we could be there with you.
Thank heavens for the power of prayer and for the recovery of your sweet little girl!!

We will keep the prayers coming!
